1939 bleeding edge!

A year before Hitler decided he’d like to own a Poland, Hammond built the worlds first polyphonic synth, the Novachord. Production began in 1938, and just over a thousand units were built up until 1942. The actual synth part of the Novachord ran entirely on tubes and caps and had a pretty amazing sound.

Those pads at about 0:45 and again at about the two minute mark are absolutely beautiful! Here, have some audio of a Novachord being played with an accompanying theramin.
